Announcement and screensaver in one
Show everyone that you are participating before the 22nd of March? Decide if you want to switch of for one hour, a whole day or the whole weekend. Place the announcement + screensaver on your website.

WordPress:
Does your WordPress have a theme and a place where you can add scripts in the head of body?
- Go to your WordPress website and go the maintenance page where you can add this. (In the head you often also add scripts for Google Analytics/Tag manager. The script of the announcement/screensaver should be added at the bottom of the body, directly above the closing body-tag.
- Go to step 1.
FTP:
Do you have FTP-access? In that case it is also possible to add the announcement/screensaver through FTP:
- Use a FTP-client that is known to you, like FileZilla.
- Open the file in which contains the overall structure of your website. The following parts should be mentioned in this file: <html><head></head><body></body></html>
- Go to step 1.
How further?
Step 1: Copy one of the following scripts:
a. Announcement and screensaver: you have three choices to placet he announcement and screensaver on your website.
- One hour, during Earth Hour
- Saturday 22nd of March, the whole day
- 21st to the 23rd of March, the whole weekend
Switch off for 1 hour with the screensaver

Step 2: Paste the copied script directly above the closing body-tag ().
Step 3: Save the changes and publish them.
Step 4: Check if the announcement/screensaver are correctly displayed on your page by refreshing the page. If all went well, the screensaver should appear when the page is refreshed.

Step 6: Has Earth Hour passed? Remove the script and save it for next year 😊.
Note: Does the announcement or screensaver not show on the page? Empty the cache of your used cache plugin. The plugin “WP Rocket” can also cause problems. Disable this plugin temporarily.
Note: If you place script before Saturday 15nd of March, then the announcement will appear from Saturday 15nd of March 2025 20:30 o’clock.
If you place the script after before Saturday 15nd of March 2025 20:30 o’clock, then the announcement will appear at the moment of placement.
If you don’t have access to the FTP or the maintenance of the website, contact your website developer.

What do we do during Earth Hour?
At Groener Groningen we go beyond turning off the lights. On the 22nd of March we will switch off our website. We hope to inspire sustainable use of data and energy. Being offline now and again is really not so bad!
